History

The LSVb was founded in Delft in 1983, but the history of student unions goes back further. In 1963, the Student Trade Union Movement, abbreviated to SVB, was founded in the Netherlands. This was modelled on the French Union Nationale des Étudiants Français. During these years, the SVB campaigned hard for study cost reimbursement and other material interests of students. As the 1960s progressed, the SVB became more politicised and increasingly left-wing. In 1968, major student riots took place in France. Initially, things remained calm in the Netherlands, but a year later, the famous occupation of the Maagdenhuis took place. Not long after, the SVB collapsed due to further radicalisation.

In 1971, the Landelijk Overleg Grondraden (LOG) was established. The LOG represented some of the same clubs as the SVB and can therefore be seen as a kind of restart.
