If you fall behind in your studies or expect to take longer to complete your degree, you may be entitled to financial support from your school or university. This is provided by the student support fund (formerly the profiling fund). You can apply for this if, owing to special circumstances, you are unable to complete your studies within the standard duration.
The special circumstances are:
- A disability or chronic illness;
- A programme that is insufficiently studyable;
- Special family circumstances;
- An administrative position within a student organisation;
- Participation in a representative council (e.g. a programme committee, the faculty board, the university council, the faculty council, the sub-council or the student council);
- Illness or pregnancy and childbirth;
- Activities in the administrative or social sphere which, in the opinion of the institution’s board, are also in the interests of the institution or the education programme that the student is following;
- Other special circumstances determined by the institution’s board in which the student finds themselves;
- Other circumstances on which a request for financial support is based and where it would be unfair not to grant that request.
You can apply for the profiling fund at your own school or university. Each school or university has its own regulations, which state what you must do to be eligible for the fund.
Report your special circumstances as soon as possible!
You can report special circumstances to the dean or study advisor. If you report it too late, your request for financial support may be rejected.
