On 4 July 2023, student and pupil organisations presented a manifesto to the Standing Committee on Education, Culture and Science. In this manifesto, these organisations called on politicians to create quiet rooms within educational institutions. However, to date, nothing has been done about this.
Quiet rooms are not a luxury, but a necessary condition for accessibility in education. These rooms are essential for a diverse group of students, such as students with disabilities and students with a religious background. Despite this, we see little movement from politicians and school administrators to make quiet rooms available at all educational institutions.
The toolkit for quiet rooms provides guidance on how to lobby your board for a quiet room at your university or college. We have developed the toolkit in collaboration with LAKS, JOBmbo, MSA Nederland, STIP, Ieder(in) and ISO.
With this toolkit, you can take steps to obtain quiet rooms yourself:
Toolkit Quiet Rooms: Sample letter
Toolkit Quiet Rooms: Step-by-step plan
Toolkit Quiet Rooms: Frequently used arguments
