Student involvement and participation

Students, together with teachers, are closest to education: they are the experts. Their involvement and participation in the design and implementation of education policy is therefore an important prerequisite for good education. It is therefore important that educational institutions and legal frameworks are structured in such a way that students have a say at all levels: in the organisation of higher education in the Netherlands, in the educational institution and in the facilities and the curriculum. In addition, student involvement and participation contribute to strengthening the checks and balances within an institution.

Involvement and influence must be as close as possible to education and the student. In this way, you ensure that education is discussed where people have knowledge of it. The starting point is that the focus of involvement and influence should always be as close as possible to education and students, unless it needs to be higher. Participation and student influence contribute to the development of students’ critical thinking skills and also enable them to ensure that educational institutions comply with the values that the LSVb considers desirable.
