Accreditation

The quality of education in the Netherlands is assessed by the Netherlands-Flemish Accreditation Organisation (NVAO). Higher education institutions undergo a quality assurance assessment once every six years to ensure that the vision on education (at management level) is also being implemented within the institution. An independent panel visits the institution and assesses it against a number of quality standards. Institutions can also choose not to undergo the institutional quality assurance assessment. This means that all of their programmes undergo a more extensive assessment.

All programmes in the Netherlands are assessed every six years by an independent panel consisting of experts in the field. Within this assessment, programmes are assessed on the basis of quality standards.

Student involvement in the accreditation process
Students are always involved in the accreditation process. The panels for both the institutional assessment and the programme accreditation always include a student member.

Students also write a student chapter about their programme during the accreditation process. There are two requirements for the student chapter: independence and representativeness. There are no other requirements for the student chapter, and it does not have to be a written text.

Students are also involved in that they may be interviewed by a panel during the assessment days. Are you involved in the accreditation process and do you have any questions about it? Please send an email to lsvb@lsvb.nl.
